CHALLENGE

To study a trend or a pattern in the cultural zeitgeist of today and explore a system for the application of this trend.
As a global average, we spend almost 2.4 hours on social media. We as human beings can process upto 74 GB a day. This calls for an act of attention by brands. How can the outlandish affair toolkit is to help brands brainstorm and come up with “stop the scrolling” content?

PATTERN

Outlandish means Bizarre and unthinkable!

Affairs on the other hand are fun, saucy, short lived but quickly become the talk of the town! They catch our attention due to their bizarre nature! What are some other Outlandish Affairs?

SOLUTION

This toolkit is a result of the trend forecast and cultural research practise. It looks at brands in two categories, household items and iconic shoe brands. The third category of cards comprises idioms. The game is to pick three cards one from each category and build a story around them to give birth to An Outlandish Affair!

As an example, Let us take Mellisas; Shoes, Scott; a paper towel brand and an Idiom —

  1. Scott and Melissa come up with a plastic towel roll for shower curtains. Looks like a when pigs can fly collab.

  2. Mellisa partnered with Scott to introduce a shoe made of paper towels! Bizarre!

  3. Scott came up with a reusable paper towel specially designed for cleaning the Mellisa’s.
